SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE LAUNCH CAMSAFE: YOUR CAMERA COULD HELP SOLVE A CRIME
(INNISFIL/BRADFORD, ON) – The South Simcoe Police Service is pleased to announce its participation in CAMSafe, a new public safety initiative that empowers the community by strengthening collaboration between police and citizens through privately owned outdoor security cameras.
CAMSafe is a free and voluntary program that encourages residents and businesses, including municipalities, community centres, and schools in Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil to register the location of their security cameras, such as doorbell cams, CCTV systems, and other surveillance devices, into a secure database accessible only by police.
If a crime or public safety incident occurs, police services can use the CAMSafe database to locate registered security cameras in the area. Police may then contact the registered camera owners to request video footage that could assist with an investigation. Registration does not provide police with direct access to any camera systems or footage; it simply allows them to know where cameras are located and who to contact if necessary.
The CAMSafe program encourages a united front against crime. It is designed to enhance community safety by assisting police to more efficiently investigate and respond to incidents such as theft, vandalism, and other criminal activity. By providing timely access to information about nearby security cameras, CAMSafe helps police quickly gather critical evidence, identify suspects, and solve cases faster. This increased efficiency not only improves the likelihood of recovering stolen property and preventing further criminal activity but also contributes to safer communities where residents feel more secure and supported.
The South Simcoe Police Service is confident that this collaboration between our service, CAMSafe and the community will strengthen the foundation of community safety for everyone.
