Getting Started
Under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, individuals can request access to any record held by government institutions, including a local police service. Requests for copies of all police reports (excluding motor vehicle collision reports and proof of loss reports, which are available through our Information Support) and any other type of police record must be made through the South Simcoe Police Service, Freedom of Information Unit. All requests made through this unit are responded to in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This unit will ensure that all federal and provincial laws are upheld when the service provides information to the general public. For example, some requests for police reports or other records contain the personal information of others and therefore can only be released with the consent of those individuals.
In order to make a request, you may attend at either the North or South Divisions of the South Simcoe Police and fill out a request form. You will be required to pay the legislated $5 application fee at that time. Please note you will be asked to provide photo identification at the time your request is made. We can only accept debit, Visa, Mastercard or certified cheque/ money order made payable to South Simcoe Police.
You may also make your request in writing by filling out the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act access form and mail it to:
