SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE OFFICERS VISIBLE IN SCHOOL ZONES AS PART OF BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY CAMPAIGN
(BRADFORD/INNISFIL, ON) – To support a safe start to the school year, South Simcoe Police will be at schools in Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury as part of an annual Back-to-School Traffic Safety and Awareness campaign. From September 2-4, 2025, South Simcoe Police will be on hand during drop-off and pick-up times to help ensure the start of the year goes smoothly and safely.
There will be an increased police presence in school zones to enhance traffic safety. Motorists are reminded that while traffic laws remain consistent, penalties within community safety zones are higher – speeding fines and other infractions may result in increased charges. Police will focus on more than speeding. Officers will also be watching for distracted drivers, seat belt infractions, and any dangerous driving behaviours.
School Bus Safety
Motorists are reminded they must stop for all school buses when the stop sign arm is extended and lights are flashing. This rule applies to traffic in both directions. Drivers also need to remember to always watch for pedestrians, obey crossing guards and reduce speed in community safety and school zones.
With the start of the school year this week, please be patient, use extra caution especially in areas with an increased presence of young children, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.
Although this campaign highlights back-to-school safety, traffic enforcement does not end here. South Simcoe Police remain vigilant, continuing to proactively enforce, and patrol our community roadways year-round to maintain public safety. It’s important that we all continue to do our part to ensure every journey ends with a safe arrival on every road, every day, for everyone.
South Simcoe Police wish everyone a safe and enjoyable first day back to school.
