South Simcoe Police Charge Toronto Man with Drug-Impaired Driving

(BRADFORD, ON) – On March 15, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the South Simcoe Police Service responded to a report of motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Holland Street West and Langford Boulevard in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Upon arrival, police conducted an investigation and determined that one of the drivers was unable to produce a valid insurance slip and could not confirm insurance coverage. Through investigation, officers detected a strong odour of cannabis emanating from one of the involved vehicles. Subsequently, Police located a quantity of dried cannabis buds, along with drug paraphernalia containing residue of a suspected drug, inside the vehicle. Additionally, a plastic case containing a suspected drug fell from the driver, who was believed to be impaired.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old male from Toronto, Ontario was charged with the following offences:

  • Careless Driving – HTA 130(1)
  • Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance – CAIA 2(1)(a)
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat With Cannabis Readily Available – CCA 12(1)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs – CC 320.14(1)(a)

The accused driver’s licence has been suspended, and his vehicle impounded. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2026.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Driving while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, or any other drug – including prescription medications is a serious public safety risk and a criminal offence.

The South Simcoe Police Service reminds motorists to always drive sober and to plan ahead to ensure you have a safe ride to and from your destination by arranging a designated driver, taking public transit, or calling a ride service. Police continue to proactively patrol our roadways to ensure community and public safety.
