Pedaling Into Trouble: Wanted Man Cycles Into View During SSPS Bike Rodeo Event

Three Arrests, Two Stolen Bicycles Recovered in Bradford

(BRADFORD, ON) – On June 18, 2026, South Simcoe Police received a report of a bicycle that was stolen earlier that morning. Later that day, Police received another call that a bicycle reported stolen earlier in the week had been seen with a person riding it in the Holland Street West area in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., officers on proactive patrol on Holland Street East located a male riding a bicycle matching the description of the one stolen earlier that morning. As a result, a 53-year-old Brampton man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 16, 2026.

While officers were arresting the first individual, a second male rode past on another bicycle that had been reported stolen earlier in the week. As a result, a 55-year-old male with no fixed address was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 10, 2026.

Both recovered bicycles were returned to their grateful owners. One of the victims was a young teen who had saved money to purchase and accessorize the bicycle.

Later that same day, at approximately 5:00 p.m., another bicycle stop occurred further on Holland Street West. In a twist of irony, officers were in the area during the South Simcoe Police Service’s annual Bike Rodeo event at Canadian Tire in Bradford when they observed a male riding a bicycle through the parking lot carrying a large duffel bag. Officers recognized the individual as matching the description of a suspect wanted on outstanding arrest warrants held by York Regional Police and the North Bay Police Service. As a result, a 58-year-old Bradford man was arrested on the strength of those warrants.

In the span of just two hours, proactive patrols resulted in three arrests, two stolen bicycles recovered, and property returned to its rightful owners.
