The Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Service Board is a civilian governing body mandated to oversee local police services. The Police Service Board directs the Chief of Police through policy, and the Chief implements or operationalizes the Board’s direction. The Chief of Police is accountable to the Board.
Section 37 of the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), defines the legislated responsibilities of police service boards in Ontario. After consultation with the Chief of Police, the Board sets the overall objectives and priorities of the police service. The Board is also responsible for appointing the members of the police service, for hiring the Chief and Deputy Chiefs of Police and for monitoring the performance of the Chief. The Board also establishes policies for the effective management of the police service. The Board approves the operating and capital police budget and is also responsible for developing a Strategic Plan for the police service every four years.
Under Section 10 of the CSPA, police service boards are responsible for ensuring adequate and effective policing is provided in the area for which they have policing responsibility, and in accordance with the needs of the population in the area and having regard for the diversity of the population in the area. The Board represents the public interest, providing civilian oversight and governance of the South Simcoe Police Service, its organizational performance, and its activities in the course of delivering police services to the community.
The Board is proud to serve the residents of the Towns of Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury. Together with the South Simcoe Police Service, their commitment remains the same: to provide effective, community-focused policing that protects and supports our communities.
If you wish to make a presentation or deputation as an individual or acting on behalf of an organization or group, please provide written notice with an outline to the Police Service Board at least 14 days prior to the meeting date.
