Thanksgiving Food Drive
(Innisfil, ON) For many of us, Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate the bounty of the season with family, friends and a big dinner with all the fixings. But not everyone in our community will have food on the table this holiday weekend. We want to change that.
South Simcoe Police Service, the Innisfil Community Church and Sobeys Alcona are joining together for a Thanksgiving Food Drive.
On Friday, October 5, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., donations will be accepted at Sobeys Alcona located at 2080 Jans Blvd. at Innsfil Beach Rd. in support of the Innisfil Food Bank.
The ‘wish list’ for donations includes all the staples such as canned soup, canned pasta, Kraft Dinner, pasta sauce, pancake mix and syrup, canned tuna/salmon, juice, cereal, crackers and cookies.
There are three ways to help:
purchase food items from a list that will be handed out at the store entrance
purchase a pre-made bag of food available inside the store
make a cash donation at the check out
Last month, the Food Bank helped 88 families in the community and the shelves need to be restocked for Thanksgiving and beyond. The need is year-round and donations are always accepted during office hours at the Innisfil Community Church located at 1571 Innisfil Beach Rd. in Innisfil.
“We want to ensure people aren’t hungry at Thanksgiving,” said Jennifer Hay of the Innisfil Community Church.
“There’s definitely a need for it. We’re happy to be able to help those who don’t have the means to have a Thanksgiving celebration,” said Kevin Augustyn, owner of Sobeys Alcona.
“We always welcome the chance to participate because this another way of making a difference to the people we serve,” said Sgt. Henry Geoffroy of the South Simcoe Police Service Community Mobilization and Engagement Unit.
