UPDATE: Socks for Seniors

(Bradford/Innisfil, ON)  The Socks for Seniors campaign is a Christmas hit!

More than 800 pairs of socks were donated to warm the feet and the hearts of seniors who might be alone during the holiday season. South Simcoe Police Service supported the campaign by placing a collection box in the South Division in conjunction with similar efforts in York Region. In our jurisdiction, the sock drive initially focussed on the 243 residents at Bradford Valley Care Community. We’re happy to report that over 300 pair of socks were given to Bradford Valley! Extra pairs were delivered for new residents coming in or if there was a senior in need other than Christmas.

The following Seniors Facilities also benefitted from the campaign:

Lakeside Retirement – Innisfil
Southlake Village – Newmarket
Mackenzie Place – Newmarket
Simcoe Manor – Beeton

Socks for Seniors organizers Laurie Breedon and Cindy Gresham are thrilled that the campaign was so warmly and enthusiastically supported.

“It turned out to be way beyond what we could ever have dreamed,” said Breedon. “So many people embraced this initiative and it is heartwarming. We know it is just one pair of socks but hopefully it will brighten Christmas morning for many seniors in our community. It is important that seniors are not forgotten not just at Christmas but all year long as they are a valuable part of our community.”

Thank you to everyone that donated! Organizers are wishing everyone a wonderful holiday!
