Career Opportunity – Chief of Police

The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury and the Town of Innisfil Police Services Board is currently inviting applications for the position of
Chief of Police.

The South Simcoe Police Service (SSPS) provides policing services to the growing communities of Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil, located on the western shores of Lake Simcoe within Simcoe County, approximately 80 km north of Toronto.

The South Simcoe Police Service was established in 1997 and has an authorized strength of 147 members, including 101 sworn officers and 46 civilians, and has an operating budget of over $22  million. The Police Service’s vision, to make a difference in the lives of others every day, supports the provincial community mobilization and engagement model of community policing.

The Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Services Board (the Board) is seeking a progressive and innovative Chief of Police who demonstrates strong leadership and exceptional personal character that will inspire the confidence of the Service and community.

Reporting to the Board, and operating within Ontario’s policing and other legislative frameworks, the Chief of Police will oversee all operational, policing and administrative functions of the SSPS and ensures that the strategic plan is translated into operational goals that address the diverse needs of these rapidly growing urban and rural communities.

The Chief will contribute to continued organizational success, overseeing the services human, financial and capital assets, and by pursuing excellence in community engagement, partnerships, and performance measurement. A thorough understanding of the challenges facing modern policing, a strong business acumen, and the ability to implement creative but practical solutions to the challenges of a growing community is key to this position.

The Chief will have a strong sense of community, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain constructive relations with employees, the Police Association, and a diverse group of government and community partners.

The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience as a sworn police officer and demonstrated experience as a transformational leader who can inspire members to find creative ways to address the complex issues facing policing.

The candidate shall have a record of exceptional personal integrity, high ethical standards, and a commitment to continuous learning and education. A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion is key to this role as we embrace collaborative partnerships that strengthen public safety and community well-being of the diverse communities that we serve.

Qualified candidates possess leadership experience, ideally gained within a municipal, regional, provincial or national police service. They bring experience as a sworn police officer and are a graduate of the Ontario Police College or have the ability to achieve the required equivalency to serve as a Chief of Police under the Police Services Act of Ontario.
