Loaded Firearm, Drugs Seized During Traffic Stop

(Innisfil, ON)  An overnight traffic stop in the Town of Innisfil has led to the seizure of a loaded handgun, drugs and the arrest of two Scarborough men.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer patrolling in the area of Yonge Street and Innisfil Beach Road stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The officer detected an odour of marijuana and observed drug paraphernalia in the front seat area. The vehicle was searched under the Cannabis Control Act. During the search, police seized a loaded handgun, ammunition, cash and a quantity of drugs including suspected cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and bags of marijuana.

As a result of the investigation, two men from Scarborough were charged with a total of over 30 offences.

Charges against 38-year-old Jonathan Ostiguy include possession of drugs including suspected cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, mushrooms, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession prohibited or restricted firearm.

Charges against 25-year-old Brandon Perez include disobeying court order, firearm or weapon possession contrary to prohibition order, possession of drugs including suspected cocaine, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm and trafficking in suspected heroin.

The accused were held for a bail hearing.
