Suspicious Person Calls Innisfil

(Innisfil, ON) The South Simcoe Police Service is investigating two suspicious person calls in Innisfil.

On Monday, June 7, 2021, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police responded to a suspicious person report in the Lockhart Road and Crescent Road area. An 11-year-old boy playing in front of a home was approached by a man in a pickup truck. The child did the right thing and ran into the house to alert a family member who called police.
The boy was unhurt.

Later that evening, police were called about another suspicious person incident that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. the same day in area of the Ewart Street and Killarney Beach Road.

A 23-year-old woman reported that she was approached by a suspicious man in a pickup truck as she and a friend were walking. The man unsuccessfully tried to engage the young women in a conversation and then drove away.

The man in both incidents is described as white, possibly in his 50’s, with short grey hair, grey goatee, and wearing a baseball style hat.

The vehicle in both incidents is described as a grey, Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.

The investigation is ongoing and police are appealing to the public for help. Anyone with information, security camera video or dashcam video is asked to contact Det. Cst. Ian Fenik at 705-436-2141, 905-775-3311, extension #1059, or contact Crime Stoppers.

Police are reminding residents to talk to their children and teens about personal safety and street proofing.

Here are some safety tips to use in that conversation:

· Never approach a stranger.
· Stay away from vehicles you do not know.
· Be wary of strangers who are overly friendly or take an unusual interest in you.
· Never get into a stranger’s vehicle.
· Never engage in conversation with a stranger who is walking or driving a vehicle. Always stay back a safe distance and continue walking while being aware of the stranger’s actions.
· If you are ever confronted by a stranger, do whatever it takes to break free, such as screaming, biting, kicking, and rolling on the ground.
· Never accept gifts, money, or candy from a stranger.
· Whenever possible, if approached, try to remember the licence plate number, vehicle description, and the stranger’s description.
· Report suspicious incidents immediately to police.
