Arrest in Thefts from Vehicles

(Bradford, ON) On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at approximately 3:00 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a report of a man entering vehicles in the Bridge Street and Given Road area of Bradford. Upon arrival, police determined that three vehicles parked in the driveway of a home had been entered and items stolen.
The suspect then attempted to break into the home but was scared off by a witness. The suspect was arrested nearby without incident. Stolen property was recovered.
As a result of the investigation, 71-year-old Walter Gilas of Bradford was charged with 2 counts Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Break In Instruments, Trespass/Prowl Near Dwelling House, 3 counts Breach of Recognizance and Fail to Comply with Judicial Release. He was held for a bail hearing.
