Impaired Driving

(Bradford/Innisfil, ON) South Simcoe Police Service officers charged three people with impaired driving over the long Family Day weekend:

On Friday, February 12, 2021, at approximately 7:30 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle with its headlights off driving erratically on County Road 4 in Innisfil. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was arrested for impaired driving. As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old Kevin Melo of Holland Landing was charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired – Excess Blood Alcohol and having an open container of liquor in the vehicle. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

On Saturday, February 13, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Innisfil Beach Road and Highway 400 in Innisfil for a fail to remain collision. The suspect vehicle was located in a parking lot on Industrial Park Road and the driver was arrested. As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Brock Small of Thornton was charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired – Excess Blood Alcohol, Dangerous Operation and Fail to Remain. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

On Sunday, February 14, 2021, at approximately 6:20 p.m., police responded to a fast food restaurant on Holland Street West for a report of a driver passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in the drive-through. The man was arrested for impaired driving and transported to South Division. As a result of the investigation, 50-year-old Manuel Gomes of Bradford was charged with Operation While Impaired and Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

3-Day Suspensions

(Bradford/Innisfil, ON) An ATV driver and a Novice Driver were issued three-day licence suspensions and charged with a number of Highway Traffic Act offences:

On Monday, February 15, 2021, at approximately 12:30 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle with no front licence plate and a loud exhaust travelling in the area of Holland Street West and Simcoe Road in Bradford. A traffic stop was initiated. A roadside drug screening device test was conducted after the officer detected an odour of cannabis and observed cannabis in the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Chase Lawlor of Bradford was issued a 3-day licence suspension. He was charged with Novice Driver – Presence of Drug, Cannabis Readily Available, Fail to Display Two Plates and Improper Muffler.

On Friday, February 12, 2021, at approximately 7:00 p.m., police conducting a RIDE program stopped an unplated ATV with a passenger on Webster Boulevard in Innisfil. Police detected an odour of alcohol and a roadside screening device test was conducted. As a result, 25-year-old Jacob Winder of Innisfil was issued a 3-day licence suspension and tickets for no permit, no plate, no insurance card and open liquor.

Prohibited Driver Arrested

(Innisfil, ON) On Sunday, February 14, 2021, at 4:00 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting traffic enforcement on Killarney Beach Road in Innisfil observed a vehicle with a licence plate violation. A traffic stop was conducted and it was determined the driver was on a criminal code driving suspension. 56-year-old Curt Mullin of Innisfil was charged with Operation While Prohibited, No Insurance, Drive While Under Suspension, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate, Use Validation Not Furnished for Vehicle, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle and Fail to Apply for Permit on Becoming Owner. His vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

From Friday, February 12, 2021, to Tuesday, February 16, 2021, South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to 283 calls for service.
