Man Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Lake Simcoe

(Innisfil, ON) South Simcoe Police Service officers charged a Hanover man with a number of offences after a stolen vehicle was recovered in Lake Simcoe.

On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., police were called to a marina on Shore Acres Drive in Innisfil regarding a vehicle that had entered the water.
The vehicle was empty when officers arrived and was partially submerged approximately 30-40 metres off shore. Investigation determined the vehicle had been stolen from Hanover on Monday, April 26, 2021. The Canine Unit attended the scene and apprehended a suspect inside a nearby building that he had broken into. He was treated at the scene for a minor injury and transported to South Division.

As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Matthew Jason Young of Hanover was charged with the following offences:

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Dangerous Operation
Breach of probation
Break and enter of a place with intent to commit and an indictable offence
Obstruct peace officers

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
