SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE SERVICE ANNOUNCES NEW DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE

(BRADFORD/INNISFIL, ON) – The Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Services Board is pleased to announce the selection of its newest Deputy Chief of Police for the South Simcoe Police Service.

Deputy Chief of Police Designate Chris Landry brings over 30 years of policing experience with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to the role and is a people-centred leader who combines a strong track record of delivering results and empathic leadership. With demonstrated ability and experience to lead with vision and effectively manage resources and operations, he has overseen major criminal investigations and spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives within organized crime enforcement. His innovative approach has strengthened multi-agency collaboration, advanced public safety, and inspired high-performing teams dedicated to investigative excellence. Deputy Chief of Police Designate Landry will begin with the South Simcoe Police Service on April 22, 2025.

Deputy Chief Designate Chris Landry began his policing career in 1994 as a Provincial Constable with the OPP. He was assigned to Uniform Patrol and served as a Coach Officer. In 2000, he served as Detective Constable across multiple units, including Regional Intelligence, Crime Unit, Provincial Weapons Enforcement, Organized Crime Task Force until 2013, when he was promoted to Detective Sergeant, then to Staff Sergeant for OPP Central Region, Dufferin and Barrie Detachments to support operational needs, where he was assigned as Acting Detachment Commander for a combined time of approximately one year. In 2016, he became a Detective Staff Sergeant for the Central Region Crime Program where he led, coordinated, monitored and supported major criminal investigations throughout the OPP Central Region. In 2018, he advanced to Detective Inspector, Major Case Manager/Multi-Jurisdictional Major Case Manager for the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) responsible for providing executive leadership, direction, guidance, and mentorship to multiple teams of police officers and civilian members both within the OPP and externally, across the province of Ontario, throughout major case investigations. As a Detective Inspector, he also fulfilled the role of Deputy Director of OPP Financial Crime Services, Serious Fraud Office for one year investigating highly complex financial crimes both nationally and internationally. In 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Detective Superintendent where his responsibilities included strategic leadership and management of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau to over 300 uniform and civilian OPP members.

Deputy Chief Designate Landry has completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Crime and Deviance from the University of Toronto. He has also completed several police training and educational programs through the Ontario Police College related to investigative analysis, major case management, media relations, fraud investigations, sexual assault investigations, homicide investigations, cyber crime investigations, professional standards investigator, and people centred leadership.

Deputy Chief Designate Landry resides in Bradford West Gwillimbury with his wife and two daughters.

Deputy Chief Designate Landry succeeds Deputy Chief Sheryl Sutton who retires on April 30, 2025, after 36 years of exemplary police service. To ensure a smooth transition, Deputy Chief Sutton will be on hand to assist with the onboarding of incoming Deputy Chief Designate Landry.

A Swearing-In Ceremony for Deputy Chief of Police Designate Landry will take place at a date and time to be announced.

The Police Services Board is the civilian body governing the South Simcoe Police Service. The Board is regulated by the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA), which oversees law enforcement and public safety in Ontario with a commitment to transparent and effective governance.
