SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE CHARGE MALE AFTER AN ASSAULT ON A BWG BYLAW OFFICER
(Bradford, On) – On March 17, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., South Simcoe Police responded to the report of an assault on a Municipal Bylaw Officer that occurred on Colborne Street in Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG). While Bylaw officers were conducting parking enforcement, they observed vehicles that were parked in no-stopping areas near a crosswalk by a school entrance. All drivers were cautioned and advised to move their vehicles.
Soon after, the Bylaw officers returned to the area to find that some of vehicles had remained. The Bylaw officers proceeded to issue tickets to the drivers who continued to violate the parking restrictions despite being previously cautioned.
As one of the Bylaw officers prepared to issue a ticket for the parking violation, the suspect, a male, operating a black GMC Sierra began to use profanities and struck the Bylaw officer with his vehicle door. The suspect, then fled northbound on Colborne Street in the GMC Sierra. A short time later, the suspect returned to the area and parked in a driveway.
South Simcoe Police were able to positively identify the male suspect and vehicle. As a result of the investigation, on May 4, 2025, the suspect was arrested and charged with assaulting the Bylaw officer. A 47-year-old male from Bradford West Gwillimbury faces one Criminal Code charge of:
- Assault peace officer – s.270.1(1)(a)
The accused was released on an undertaking with a court date of May 29, 2025.
