SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE ACTIVELY WORKING TO TAKE IMPAIRED AND STUNT DRIVERS OFF OUR ROADWAYS

(INNISFIL, ON) – On May 17, 2025, at approximately 10:20 p.m., South Simcoe Police conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford Taurus on Webster Avenue in the Town of Innisfil. The investigating officer detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath and seized two opened alcoholic beverages from within the vehicle. After further investigation, two breath samples were obtained from the driver and as a result, a 28-year-old male from Barrie was arrested and charged with:

Criminal Code charges:
– Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs – C.C. Section 320.14(1)(a)
– Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood or higher – C.C. Section 320.14(1)(b)

Provincial Offences charges:
– Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor – LLCA 42(1)(a)
– Driving While Under Suspension – HTA 53(1)
– Owner Operate motor Vehicle on a highway – No Insurance – CAIA 2(1)(A)

The 28-year-old driver’s licence has been suspended, and his vehicle impounded. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 12, 2025.

In a separate incident, on May 19, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police stopped a driver travelling 105 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Yonge Street in the Town of Innisfil. A 43-year-old male from Barrie has been charged with stunt driving. His licence was suspended for 30-days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14-days.

Later in the day, in a separate incident, a 23-year-old male from Innisfil was charged with stunt driving for travelling 138 km/her in a 80 km/h zone on Sideroad 20 in the Town of Innisfil. His licence was suspended for 30-days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14-days.

The South Simcoe Police Traffic Unit continues to respond to serious collisions including life-threating and fatal collisions, with speeding and excessive speed identified as key contributing factors.

Speeding and impaired driving are preventable. All too often they result in tragic outcomes. The South Simcoe Police Service urges you to always plan ahead if consuming alcohol and cannabis to ensure you have a safe ride to and from your destination.

Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play in protecting our communities. Never drive impaired and always follow posted speed limits – lives depend on it!
