Canada Road Safety Week May 14-20, 2019
(Bradford, Innisfil, ON) South Simcoe Police Service is proud to be participating in this year’s Canada Road Safety Week. The 7-day national campaign is aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. This annual awareness initiative is designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canada’s roads. Each day of Canada Road Safety Week will be dedicated to a different road safety risk factor.
In Bradford and Innisfil, there were 1,452 motor vehicle collisions and 6 fatalities in 2018. Safe roads depend on drivers making the right decisions. This is why the focus of this campaign is on the behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users at risk. Again this year, we will be encouraging Canadians to stop alcohol-impaired driving, drug-impaired driving, fatigue-impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and driving without wearing a seatbelt.
While this public safety initiative is part of a national effort to help advance Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025,to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world, we are confident that our local efforts will help make the roads here in Bradford and Innisfil among the safest in Canada. But we need your help. If you see an impaired driver or any vehicle operating in a dangerous or suspicious manner, please call 9-1-1 so we can respond. By working together, we can make a difference when it comes to road safety. Thank you to all the citizens who make the call.
