St. Patrick’s Day RIDE results in Large Illegal Marijuana Bust

(Innisfil, ON) Officers conducting a St. Patrick’s Day RIDE program located a different type of green.

On Saturday, March 16, 2019 around 7:00 p.m., a van was stopped at a RIDE program at the intersection of the 4th Line at Reive Boulevard in Innisfil. While speaking with the driver, an overpowering odour of fresh cannabis was detected from inside the vehicle. A search under the Cannabis Act resulted in officers locating 64 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $250,000.00. Seven people ranging in age from 50 to 67 are each charged with the following offences under the Cannabis Act:  

Possession for the purpose of distribution

Possession over 30 grams

Possession of illicit cannabis

Distribute cannabis

The seven accused were transported to North Division for further investigation. They were subsequently released with a future court date in April.

Police seized a 2017 Dodge Caravan as offence-related property. The investigation is continuing.
