Impaired Driving 

(Innisfil, ON) A 31-year-old Barrie man is charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80 and Dangerous Operation after citizens called police to report an erratic driver in Innisfil.

On Sunday, July 7, 2019 around 10:00 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service received the first call about a pickup truck driving erratically in the area of County Road 27 and Highway 89. A short time later, police received a second call about the same vehicle but this time it was northbound on Highway 400. That caller stated the truck was driving erratically at a high rate of speed, went into a ditch near the Innisfil Beach Road exit and was trying to get out. A short time later the vehicle exited Highway 400 onto Innisfil Beach road and a traffic stop was conducted after the pickup turned onto the 10th Sideroad. The officer observed signs of impairment and open alcohol inside the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to North Division where further testing resulted in readings of well over three times the legal limit of alcohol. A 31-year-old Barrie man was charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80 and Dangerous Operation. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.

We are extremely grateful to the citizens that called us to report this dangerous situation involving a combination of alcohol impairment and speed. This situation put many other innocent citizens at risk. If you see a suspected impaired or erratic driver, don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1.
