Speeding/Stunt Driving

(Bradford, ON) A 23-year-old Tottenham man is charged with Speeding and Stunt Driving following a traffic stop in Bradford.

On Monday, January 13, 2020, at 11:50 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on 5th Sideroad. A speed measurement was obtained of 129 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. As a result, a 23-year-old Tottenham man was charged with Speeding and Stunt Driving.

Speeding/Stunt Driving/Cannabis Readily Available

(Innisfil, ON) A 32-year-old Bradford man was charged with several offences after police conducted a vehicle stop in Innisfil.

On Sunday, January 12, 2020, around 10:00 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement on Yonge Street observed a vehicle pass one vehicle then another at a high rate of speed. At the time, roads were snow and ice covered with blowing snow and a temperature of minus 14.

A speed measurement was obtained of 133 km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as a result, a 32-year-old Bradford man was charged with Speeding, Stunt Driving and Cannabis Readily Available.

Both drivers charged with Stunt Driving received immediate seven-day licence suspensions and seven-day vehicle impoundment at roadside. The minimum fine for a stunt driving conviction is $2,000. Courts can impose a licence suspension of up to two years and a possible jail term of up to six months.

Winter weather requires drivers to reduce their speed to maintain road safety, not go dangerously well over the speed limit. Go slow, leave extra stopping distance and use full headlights. Please arrive alive and avoid preventable collisions.

Impaired/Over 80/Speeding 

(Innisfil, ON) A 48-year-old Barrie man is facing several charges including Over 80 and Speeding.

On Sunday, January 12, 2020 around 2:55 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement stopped a vehicle travelling 70 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil. The officer detected an odour of alcohol and observed open liquor on the passenger seat. The driver was arrested and transported to North Division. Breath tests resulted in readings of over three times the legal limit.

Drive while under suspension

Speeding 70 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone

Driving motor vehicle with open container for liquor

 

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Impaired Driving/Over 80 

(Bradford, ON) On Sunday, January 12, 2020 around 12:00 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Holland Street West in Bradford. A vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, left the scene and was later located by the victim in a nearby parking lot. Police arrived and arrested the driver that fled for impaired driving. He was transported to South Division where breath tests resulted in readings of double the legal limit.

A 26-year-old Bradford man was charged with:

Over 80

Careless driving

Novice driver – BAC above zero

Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by qualified driver

Fail to surrender permit

Fail to surrender licence

Drive motor vehicle, no validation on plate

 

The man’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Over 80  

(Innisfil, ON) A 28-year-old Innisfil man was charged with Over 80 after police investigated a vehicle with a burned out headlight.

On Saturday, January 11, 2020, around 9:00 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer saw a vehicle with a burned out headlight parked along a curb in the 6th Line and St. Johns Road area of Innisfil. The driver was slumped against the window. Once awakened, the driver was arrested after failing a roadside screening device test. He was transported to North Division where breath tests resulted in readings of over twice the legal limit. A 28-year-old Innisfil man was charged with Over 80.

The man’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Three impaired driving occurrences – one also involving speeding – in addition to two stunt driving incidents make for discouraging statistics.
