Super Bowl Sunday RIDE
(Innisfil/Bradford, ON) On Sunday, February 3, 2019, South Simcoe Police Service officers conducted five separate RIDE programs for Super Bowl Sunday.
Officers stopped 650 vehicles which resulted in the following:
one Over 80 charge
one 3-day warn range suspension
one provincial offences notice for drive with cannabis in open baggage
10 roadside breath tests which resulted in a pass
The person charged with Over 80 at a RIDE program in Bradford was a 25-year-old man from Innisfil. Around 11:00 p.m., officers conducting a RIDE program at the intersection of Jay Street and Dissette Street stopped a vehicle. Officers detected an odour of alcohol. The driver was arrested for impaired driving after a fail was registered on a roadside screening device. He was transported to South Division where breath tests resulted in a charge of Over 80. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded.
It is extremely disappointing that despite warnings of police enforcement and other options available to avoid driving impaired, people still make the wrong choice. We will continue to operate our RIDE programs year round in our efforts to prevent tragedies on our roads.
