There is no set time that break-ins are more likely to occur. Police are reminding residents about the following home security tips:
Keep an eye out for and report suspicious vehicles idling on your street or suspicious people on foot in the area.
Garage doors leading directly into your home should be kept locked at all times, even when you are in the house or backyard.
Garage doors should be left closed when left unattended for a period of time.
Take inventory of your property with photos or videos or mark valuables with a personal identification number.
Make sure that outside lights are in good working order.
Instead of hiding a key around the outside of your home, give a spare key to a trusted neighbour.
Lights on timers are good for giving the impression that your home is occupied whether you are home or away. Install lights on timers in different rooms and have the lights go off at varying times.
Get to know your neighbours and join forces by looking out for each other’s properties.
