Recovered Stolen Vehicle/Stunt Driving

(Bradford/Innisfil, ON) On August 10, 2024, at approximately 6:20 p.m., police were on patrol in the area of Yonge Street and Bathurst Street in King Township of York Region when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. They activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop.

During their investigation, officers determined that the vehicle’s VIN tag appeared unusual, as it was pressed tight to the glass and had a unique definition to it. The vehicle was highly modified, prompting a closer inspection by police. Several discrepancies were found in various vehicle tags. It was discovered that the VIN tag was affixed to a piece of folded cardboard, which revealed the original factory VIN.

The original factory VIN belonged to a 2016 Ford Mustang GT stolen in May of 2021. The vehicle presented at roadside was a 2017 Ford Mustang. Further investigation revealed that the driver had prior convictions for Theft Over $5000 and Utter Forged Documents. The fake VINS were seized, and the vehicle was towed.

As a result of an investigation, a 57-year-old male from Innisfil was charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, Stunt Driving, and Fail to Have Insurance Card.
