(Innisfil, ON) The search for a missing boater resumed this morning on Kempenfelt Bay in Innisfil. The search effort involves the marine units from South Simcoe Police Service (SSPS) and Barrie Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. SSPS has also deployed its drone.
On Thursday, September 3, 2020, around 3:00 p.m., the SSPS, Innisfil Fire and Rescue Service and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services responded to a report of a boater overboard on Kempenfelt Bay near Bear Point and the 30th Side Road. The 21-year-old Scarborough woman was touring with friends on Kempenfelt Bay when she fell into the water. The SSPS, OPP, York Regional Police and Barrie Police Marine Units were deployed immediately and commenced a search and rescue effort with the assistance of OPP air support. The search was suspended at 9:00 pm on Thursday evening due to the loss of daylight and inclement weather.
The search effort resumed this morning, Friday, September 4, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. and is continuing.
