Traffic Stop Leads to Fraud and Drug Charges
(Bradford, ON) South Simcoe Police Service officers have laid fraud and drug charges following a traffic stop in Bradford.
On Thursday, February 6, 2020, around 2:30 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer initiated a traffic stop on Holland Street West as a result of seeing an SUV travelling in an erratic manner. The officer quickly determined illegal narcotics were in the vehicle and summoned K9 to assist in a search. A quantity of narcotics and drug paraphernalia along with numerous fraudulent bank cards were located and seized. As a result of the investigation, 31-year-old Godwin Bonney of Toronto, 41-year-old Tara Kamrath of Kitchener and 54-year-old Tracey Galka of Wasaga Beach were charged with fraud-related offences. Galka also faces a drug related charge.
The three accused were released with future court dates. The investigation is ongoing.
Teen Charged with Stunt Driving Following ATV Pursuit
(Innisfil, ON) A 17-year-old Innisfil boy is facing numerous charges following a police pursuit involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).
On Thursday, February 6, 2020, around 2:30 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer attempted to stop an ATV driver who was not wearing a helmet on Anna Maria Avenue. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. A speed measurement was obtained of 99 km/h in a posted 40 km/h Community Safety Zone. The ATV continued to speed erratically through traffic and the officer discontinued the pursuit due to public safety. Further investigation by the officer led to the identity and arrest of the driver.
A 17-year-old youth has been charged with:
Flight from Peace Officer
Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence
Fail to Wear Proper Helmet
The youth, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released with a future court date.
For on-road riding, an All-Terrain or Off-Road Vehicle driver must:
be at least 16 years old
hold at least a valid G2 or M2 licence
wear an approved motorcycle helmet, securely fastened under the chin with a chin strap
wear a seat belt, where provided
travel at speeds less than the posted speed limit
Impaired Driving/Over 80
(Innisfil, ON) A 33-year-old Mississauga man was charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 after South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a collision in Innisfil. On Thursday, February 6, 2020, around 5:30 p.m., police arrived at the scene of a three-vehicle collision on Innisfil Beach Road just west of Highway 400. Police spoke to the suspect driver and detected an odour of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to North Division where breath tests resulted in readings of well over the legal limit. 33-year-old Lukasz Janczura of Mississauga was charged with Operation While Impaired and Over 80. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. One driver involved in the collision suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
