Caring with Cards and Carnations

(Bradford, ON)  Seniors in Bradford will receive a special delivery for Valentine’s Day of more than 1,000 cards made by students and carnations donated by a local flower shop. The caring gesture was organized by our School Resource officer Elisabeth Aschwanden who wanted to connect students with seniors in a meaningful way during these challenging times. Aschwanden requested 432 cards but wound up receiving a whopping 1,464 from the following schools: Earl Rowe Public School, St. Angela Merici Catholic School, Fieldcrest Elementary School, Fred C. Cook Public School, Chris Hadfield Public School, St.Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School, and St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic School. Linda’s Floral Design in Bradford offered to donate carnations to make this Valentine’s Day even more memorable! The budding artists who created the cards were from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. The cards and carnations will be handed out on Valentine’s Day at a number of seniors residences in Bradford. Due to the overwhelming number of cards, other community partners will be handing them out and some seniors in Innisfil will also receive the special Valentine’s Day greetings. Students poured their hearts into the cards with positive messages, jokes, poems, stickers, flowers, games and questions. The gifts take on even more significance as this is the Family Day Weekend.

Thank you to everyone who stepped up to make a difference to our very valuable citizens – our seniors!
