Four Charged in Construction Equipment Thefts

(Innisfil, ON)  Four people face numerous charges after South Simcoe Police Service officers recovered several hundred thousand dollars in stolen construction equipment.

On Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 4:30 p.m., an officer conducting traffic enforcement observed a pickup truck with a trailer hauling an insecure skid steer on 10th Sideroad in Innisfil. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the pickup truck sped off at a high rate of speed measured at 133 km/h in a posted 80 zone. The vehicle eventually stopped for police and the officer determined the skid steer and trailer were stolen. The driver was placed under arrest for dangerous driving and possession of stolen property. His passenger was arrested for possession of stolen property. Two other men were subsequently arrested. Police contacted the company which had not yet discovered the theft. Further investigation revealed that suspects had stolen or attempted to steal $500,000 in property from the company.

As a result of investigation by the Traffic Unit and Street Crime Unit, police laid a total of over 50 charges against two Innisfil men aged 23 and 25 and two Barrie men aged 21 and 23. The accused were released with court dates in January.
