EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: POLICE CONSTABLES (EXPERIENCED)
(Bradford/Innisfil, ON) South Simcoe Police Service (SSPS) is responsible for a large geographical area comprised of communities with diverse cultural and economic makeups. We provide services to the communities of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury and the Town of Innisfil.
If you are a current serving Canadian police officer and would like to continue your passion in a smaller more personal and family oriented service, then SSPS could be the organization for you. We serve in beautiful communities that feature rural settings of farms, Lake Simcoe and the Holland River, where people still know you by name, are engaged with and supportive of their police service.

The process for applicants with previous police experience includes the successful completion of each of the following phases:
· Local focus and competency based interviews;
· Psychological test and interview with a psychologist;
· Background investigation;
· Job offer, conditional on a successful medical clearance.
Please note that the successful completion of any phase of the selection process does not guarantee proceeding to the next phase.
· Successful completion of recruit training at Ontario Police College (or another recognized police training facility)
· Successful completion of the prescribed probationary period, according to Ontario Police Service Act.
· Valid driver’s license

for Experienced Police Constable Applicants
· Is my pension transferable?
For all questions pertaining to your pension, please refer to www.omers.ca. As a OMERS member, you may be able to transfer pension credits in to the OMERS plan from another Canadian registered pension plan. If you have been a member of another registered pension plan in the past, contact OMERS Client Services directly. You may be able to transfer some or all of this service into OMERS.
· How many weeks of Annual Vacation will I receive upon joining?
You will receive Annual vacation based on the collective agreement
· Will my previous years of experience count towards the service recognition pay?
Yes. You will receive this benefit in accordance with the current collective agreement.
· What benefits am I entitled to as a member of the South Simcoe Police?

Yes. The collective agreement provides for the continuation of salary in whole and/or in part, for that period.
· I am an officer with international or military experience. Do I qualify as an experienced officer?
Your knowledge, skills and abilities are desirable to SSPS and we will accept your application but it might not qualify for an experienced officer application. This discretion will be made on receipt and review of your application.
· Which location of South Simcoe Police will I be assigned to?
Officers are assigned to a location and platoon based on the needs of the Service at the time of hire.
· Are there any training exemptions for police officers?
Applications from Ontario: If you are an experienced officer graduated from Ontario Police College than you are exempt from the recruit training.
Applications outside of Ontario: An experienced officer who has completed a Canadian police recruit training program comparable to the Ontario Police College program, and approved by the Ontario Police College, must write an Ontario Police College exemption exam. A candidate must have entered the selection process in order to write the exam and must obtain a passing grade to be considered at South Simcoe Police Service. The exemption exam is based on provincial law, Use of Force and the Highway Traffic Act.
Approved police recruit training programs
Graduates from the following Ontario Police College-approved programs are eligible to write the exemption exam:
· Atlantic Police Academy
· British Columbia Justice Institute
· Calgary Police Service
· Ecole Nationale de Police du Quebec
· Edmonton Police Service
· Royal Canadian Mounted Police Depot
· Saskatchewan Police College
· Winnipeg Police Service
All other experienced officers must complete the Ontario Police College recruit program.
