Arrest in Bradford Hit-and-run

(Bradford, ON) South Simcoe Police Service officers have made an arrest in a hit-and-run where a pedestrian was struck twice by two different vehicles.

On Friday, January 22, 2021 at approximately 7:00 p.m., police were called to Holland Street West and West Park Avenue in Bradford after a 65-year-old Bradford woman was struck by two different vehicles as she crossed the street. The first suspect vehicle, a white Ranger Rover, hit the victim and fled the scene at a high rate of speed eastbound on Holland Street West. The second suspect vehicle struck the victim while she lie on the road and fled southbound on West Park Avenue. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and then transferred to a Toronto trauma centre. She was recently released from hospital to continue her recovery.

On Thursday, April 15, 2021, police executed a search warrant in Markham and arrested the alleged driver of the second suspect vehicle.

51-year-old Richard Kalyn of Markham is facing two charges:

-Fail to Stop After Accident Resulting in Bodily Harm
-Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm

Investigators would like to thank members of the public and our public safety partners for assisting in this investigation, which is ongoing in an effort to identify the driver of the first suspect vehicle.

“We are once again appealing to the driver of the white Ranger Rover to do the right thing, contact a lawyer and surrender to police. We will never give up. Several months have passed and it’s time for you, and anyone who may know about your involvement, to come forward and speak to us,” said Det. Sgt. Kai Johnson of the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
