Constables Devon Northrup And Morgan Russell

In memory of our brave officers who sacrificed their lives protecting our communities

On October 11, 2022, Police Constable Morgan Russell and Police Constable Devon Northrup were shot and killed in an ambush attack while responding to a disturbance call.

November 11, 1967 – October 12, 2022

Constable Morgan Russell was 54 years of age and served as a Police Constable for over 33 years. Constable Russell started his policing career with the Innisfil Police in October 1989 and stayed when the South Simcoe Police Service was formed in 1997.

Constable Russell was a frontline officer but throughout his career, he also served as a founding member of the Emergency Response Unit for 22 years, a coach officer, a trained crisis negotiator, and a member of the recruiting team, conducting interviews and presenting to local colleges. He is survived by his wife and two children.

December 9, 1988 – October 11, 2022

Constable Devon Northrup was 33 years of age and served as a Police Constable for six years. Constable Northrup was currently assigned to the Community Mobilization and Engagement Unit.  He was a coach officer, a member of the Emergency Response Unit and served as part of the Crisis Outreach Response Unit that responds to mental health calls. Constable Northrup was also a licenced drone operator.  He is survived by his spouse and parents.
